Spruce Up Your Home in 2022 with These 5 Easy Tips

One of the challenges of being a homeowner is trying to make it feel like a home… more specifically your home. Even when we’re happy with our decor, you’re not going to feel that way forever. And if you’re going to be selling your home in the near future, you don’t want to make any changes that’ll decrease your home’s value.

In the name of helping you get some ideas for sprucing up your home for potential buyers or helping you fall back in love with your home, here are five tips that can help.

1. Changing furniture layout

An easy way you can change the way your home looks and feels is to change the furniture layout and maybe even swap out some pieces from one room to another. If possible, consider putting a couch cover on the sofa to give it a whole new look. Swap out curtains to let in more light. You can do this with art, mirrors, lamps, and other little touches you can think of.

2. Updating color palette

A room’s color palette can have an impact on our emotions and can alter the way we feel about the space in general. If you’ve grown tired of your current color palette, choose an item that you’re fond of (it can be a piece of furniture, artwork, flowers, etc.) and create a palette with that in mind. If you’re selling, we do recommend opting for a neutral palette and using accessories for that pop of color instead.

3. Hone your green thumb

Adding plants to any decor is a great way to add color and nature to any room. There are many different types of indoor plants that you can grow that don’t require a whole lot of maintenance (cacti and succulents don’t require as much watering as, say, a fern or peace lily). Of course, if you like the idea of plants but can’t keep them alive no matter what… You can find realistic faux plants that will do the trick as well!

Note: if you have pets, research what plants are safe and what plants are toxic to animals.

4. Shine some light on… everything

We already mentioned that you can change the color of your curtains to match a new color palette, but you should also consider the fabric the curtains are made of. Light gauzy materials are perfect for those who want to let the sunlight in but still retain some privacy. Of course, if you’re trying to brighten a room that doesn’t have many windows, you can add more lamps to the space or use mirrors to give the illusion of there being more natural sunlight.

5. Give cabinets a face lift

Replacing cabinets is expensive, that we know. However, you can change the look of your kitchen or bathroom with a few gallons of white paint (or whatever color you choose). Painting the cabinets is a relatively easy task that can be done over the course of a weekend – depending on how many cabinets you have to paint, of course. After painting, you can also change the hardware to elevate the look even further.

It doesn’t require thousands of dollars and months of hard work to make you fall in love with your home again. With a creative eye and inspiration found online, you can make your home feel new.
